ANALYSES
SEQUENCH Lithuania is a professional laboratory specialising in molecular analysis of complex environmental samples (e.g., eDNA/eRNA from water, sediments, and biofilms). We generate high-fidelity sequence data on Illumina MiSeq and NextSeq 2000 platforms for metabarcoding and metagenomics, delivering robust biodiversity insights from species to community level. We also offer validated real-time PCR (qPCR) and digital PCR (dPCR) assays for sensitive, quantitative target detection (e.g., priority taxa, pathogens, functional genes).

TECHNOLOGY - eDNA & eRNA
DNA and RNA carry the genetic information that allow organisms to develop, survive, and reproduce. This information is encoded as a sequence of four chemicals called bases. By sequencing (i.e. “reading”) that code we can tell, which organisms are present, assess community composition, and, with RNA, gain insights into recent biological activity.
In natural settings, all organisms (from bacteria to whales) continually shed genetic material into their surroundings. This trace material – environmental DNA (eDNA) and environmental RNA (eRNA) – can be collected from water, soil, or air and analysed with high-throughput sequencing (HTS) to produce high-resolution biodiversity profiles. eDNA offers sensitive species detection (including rare or low-abundance taxa), while the shorter-lived eRNA provides a closer proxy for current activity.
